The project aims to upgrade almost 150 bus stops along the A4 and the surrounding areas to improve accessibility, make getting the bus more comfortable and appealing, and help to improve the reliability and journey times of buses.

The changes include:

  • Raising kerbs so they are level with bus doors, making it easier to get on and off
  • Live digital information screens with real-time bus information
  • Creating space for bike racks and e-scooter parking
  • Adding new shelters with seating or making the stops larger (if there’s enough room)
  • Making bus stopping areas longer and moving some bus stops out of laybys and into the road, so buses don’t have to wait to pull back into traffic

All the bus stops would have a similar design, so they are easier to spot and use.

What would this mean?

  • A more comfortable and pleasant environment for people waiting for the bus
  • Better travel information available at bus stops
  • More opportunities for more people to cycle to bus routes with better bike and e-scooter parking
  • Buses can stay on schedule more easily by not getting delayed in laybys

What’s changed since 2023?

  • We’ve increased the number of bus stops being upgraded from around 90 to almost 150, with more detailed information about the upgrades now available
